William Charles Ross (British, 1794-1860), portrait of the Duchess of Cork, half-length seated holding a letter wearing a blue velvet dress with an ermine trim, signed and dated 1834 verso, miniature on ivory, 12 by 8.5cm, in a fitted morocco presentation case.

Note: by repute from descendants of the Earls of Cork who owned Marston House, near Frome. Queen Victoria refers to meeting the Duchess of Cork in her journals in 1838 and refers to her as the 'old Lady Cork'. By this time Lady Cork was 92 and was a great favourite of George III and Queen Charlotte.
