Note: explorer and naval Captain, George Vancouver, set sail from King's Lynn in April 1791 aboard HMS Discovery to survey the Pacific Northwest coastline of North America, which resulted in the publication of his three volume book 'Voyage of Discovery to the North Pacific Ocean' in 1798. During his travels he circumnavigated the island now known as Vancouver Island, Canada. This locally made glass would have been sold as a souvenir of his embarkment.
